Comprised of 8 organizations that serve the blindness community, HAVIN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas. Our motto is "Bringing unity to our community." Our board members include representatives from the local chapters of both the ACB and NFB, the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and several support groups. We come together to serve our Houston community. This gives us a broad user base with much experience to share the extensive knowledge we have gained.
Our signature event is the Insight Expo, an annual event at the University of Houston, where we have speakers, workshops and panel discussions in a day-long event. However, COVID taught us to be adaptable and we have learned how to hold this event virtually. We have also grown to have regular workshops on Zoom, allowing attendees to come from across the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica. But you don't need to live in Houston to get our help.
We can share information about resources available to those who are visually impaired in and around, or thinking about moving to Houston. But we also know of many other resources and information that are available elsewhere.
